Veneer Storage and Moisture

Store Veneer as a Manufacturing Material

Thin veneer responds quickly to changes in temperature and humidity. Poor storage can contribute to curling, waviness, edge damage, uneven moisture, contamination, and bonding problems.

Recommended Storage Practices

  • Move delivered veneer indoors promptly.
  • Keep it away from rain, plumbing leaks, concrete moisture, and exterior doors.
  • Protect it from direct sunlight and strong heat sources.
  • Support the full sheet area and store packs flat.
  • Keep the material clean and protected from dust, oil, silicone, and overspray.
  • Avoid placing heavy or irregular objects on unsupported veneer.
  • Retain product identification and separate different grades or thicknesses.

Stabilization Before Use

Allow material to stabilize in the production environment before pressing, especially after long transit, major weather changes, or movement between different climates. The required time depends on the pack, environment, storage method, and production controls.

Moisture and Bonding

Uneven or unsuitable moisture can affect adhesive behavior, press results, springback, dimensional stability, sanding, and the finished laminate. The acceptable range depends on the wood, adhesive, equipment, and process. Follow the adhesive manufacturer's requirements and validate the complete system.

Do Not Force-Dry Without a Controlled Process

Placing veneer against heaters, in direct sun, or in an uncontrolled hot space may dry it unevenly and cause distortion. Any conditioning process should be controlled, measured, and tested.

Handling Curled or Wavy Sheets

Minor movement may change after the material stabilizes under flat support. Do not wet sheets casually or apply unknown treatments before bonding. If material appears abnormally wet, damaged, contaminated, or severely distorted, isolate it and contact us before using it.

Production Records

For repeat manufacturing, record storage conditions, shop conditions, material lot, adhesive batch, spread rate, press cycle, and test results. Records make it easier to identify changes when a laminate performs differently.
